The Accessible Schools Network is a social initiative that aims to augment access of students with disabilities from marginalized communities to educational spaces, tools, and assistive devices. This is imperative because students from these communities often do not have access to personalized equipment and their schools are not equipped with appropriate infrastructure to handle their disability in a sufficient manner.
The Accessible Schools Network facilitates need assessments in schools that it works with and develops school-specific accessibility plans using the information. These plans delve into what the requirements of these students are and also analyze what is currently available and how that can be used. The initiative also supports students with disabilities by donating assistive technology based on the requirements of the school and the students. The aim is to ensure that students with disabilities are not left behind and have access to the same opportunities as their peers.
The social initiative identifies an area that requires support and understands how to support the beneficiary group. The need assessment and the development of personalized plans ensures that no two schools have the same solution but that the students’ needs are prioritized and solutions are oriented towards supporting them and making their life easier. The aim of this project is to support students with disabilities and help them live an independent life by providing them with access to the most important thing, education.
